About the Program
The Persian language has been a staple offering in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and nurtured by the presence of a lively population of Iranian and non-Iranian students on campus.
Students are immersed in both the language and culture of Iran, with the goal not only being reading comprehension but a command of the spoken language that makes thinking in another language a revolutionary experience. Students are further encouraged to practice their language skills and understanding of Iran by attending conversation tables, cultural events, and Persian-language films.
Currently, elementary, intermediate, and Advanced Persian language are offered in a three year program. In addition, Persian Language and Literature offers a few courses on Contemporary and Classic Persian literature.
